North School

This is the Original OLD BRICK BLDG at North School, at 6040 Kay North., in Lansing. It was built in early 1920’s and, unfortunately, torn down in early 1970’s for safety reasons. There is a lot of history in that building.   Many business owners have graduated from here .  Many of our families, such as my dad, lived right next door. My grandma had vacant lot and they had a little family store on other side of home.  I stay a lot of weekends at the family home.  Below you see a picture of my dad’s and aunt's class. It was before they had the fire escapes. It seemed like the perfect country setting, everyone knew everyone and was involved in the community someway.

Mr. & Mrs. Schmaltz were the dance supervisors at our Miller Rd. dances at our community hall.  All the activities were held there.  We had our Tom Thumb Wedding there and meetings, voting,  etc.  and also our Library. We were considered the bused all around kids.   ,but I assure you living in the country had it’s advantages - it was a very safe place in a beautiful country setting.   East Miller Rd.  area was surrounding by beautiful farms which included, horses, cows, woods and streams, where I grew up. My aunt owned 80 acres, so I got to experiences the "Real Country."

At the North School Old Brick Bldg reunion we get up to 200 or more  attending yearly reunions. They are from all classes that have graduated from it.  Our Seniors started it and we even have some WW II vets that attend.  Mr. Miller, after whom  Miller Rd. was named  was there.  The former Kahr Dairy sisters were also there, sitting across from our bunch.  The food is great, everyone brings a dish to pass. Trudy Belding , who’s family owned Belding Animal Hospital, was there with her sister.  As well as the owners of Lansing Gardens were also there, to mention a few.

My parents owned a small side business.  It was called Collier’s Driving Training School. Imagine learning everything on stick shift.  We had two  of everything for the Student and Trainer.  My dad worked for the Post Office for 30 years.

It is truly wonderful to know and stay in touch with old friends for 58 years and hope to get more of us involved in the future.  We are planning on going to Ron Fitzgerald's riding ranch this year.  He has a 60 acre farm and breeds famous  horses for a living.  I visited Millie Lauzen about a month ago at Ingham County Care facility,  where I used to work.  She was so excited about coming, however she died at the age of 93 a couple of weeks ago.   Hope to see many of you all at our 45th.
