Hi all:
One of my paintings is on a web site of the
Detroit Institute of Art. Well,
it's not there so much as a painting as a fashion statement. The DIA has a
show of
Richard Avedon fashion photos opening soon. This relates to fashion through the decades.

If you have a minute, check this web site:

About once a month some of the 1963 band members and classmates get together for lunch to talk about life, etc.

On November 6,2009  Tom Struble, Dave Noonan, Ed Stephens and Mike & Diane Keen contacted

Le Roy Clemens and his wife and invited them to have lunch with us. We all met on that date with Le Roy and his wife for a great lunch and old time talk .

Le Roy and his wife live in Lansing.  He retired from teaching in 1990 and is enjoying retirement and travel.

He has had some recent health problems, but was in good spirit at lunch.   Many old stories were exchanged  and he spoke fondly of the 1963 class band members.

He also performed with the Lansing Orchestra for 33 years but left music due to some hearing loss problems.

We invited them to join when they could.  It was fun to talk about the last 46 years and looking forward to the 50th reunion.

If any class band members would like to join us for lunch periodically you would be welcome.

Please feel free  to email Mike Keen       mikekeen@comcast.net    Look forward to seeing more band members in the future.  Mike Keen 1963

I received this from Bob Heriford on Friday, March 20th, 2009:

 Classmates,  Mike Lauzun passed away this morning at 6:08 AM in a cancer care unit in Florida
Mike did not want anything special and not a hint of sadness but a celebration of life and controlled mayhem!!!  It might be nice to send your thoughts of Mike to our website for a remembrance of Mike and the good times he offered us all.  Don't know if this has been done before but it is a way of honoring him.
 Although Dan and Linda loved and cared about Mike, they do not want to disregard Mike's wishes.  It might be nice to send them a card letting them know of your special remembrance of Mike.  Just a thought...Dan and Linda Lauzun, 908 Chads Way, Charlotte, MI 48813.  They will not be home from Florida for a couple of weeks.  You might plant a flower for Mike since he loved the color and vibrance of life unfettered by any hurtful tendencies (like us sometimes.)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Her are my thoughts of Mike:  He was such a gentle spirit always willing to give of himself or his "wealth" so that others might have enough.  When he lived with me in Florida we would play cribbage, crack jokes (mostly of each other), watch golfers from the patio, have a beer and watch the Sand Hill Cranes (mighty big birds) and he would often feed them.  I told him not to because they would attack our back porch screen looking for him and grub.  So he would go to where they were.  He could cook and made 50 gallons of Chili which I am still eating to this day.

 He loved working on the golf course and took special pride in flowers and gardening.

In high school we were close and often went to Woody's pool hall to play pool and act like little hoodlums.  He was quick of wit, kind of nice looking (don't get the wrong idea) and a friend to just about everyone.  I love the guy and he will always be a part of my life.  Here's to you old friend...Bye Mike, see ya!!
Maybe classmates here in Lansing could get together for the celebration of life he wanted, bring pictures of him and kick it around...just a thought.

A TRIBUTE TO MIKE LAUZEN FROM HIS CLASSMATE, DAWN WELCH

Although I did not have the privilege of sharing time with Mike Lauzun after our graduation, he was someone I never forgot.  Mike always had such a kind a pleasant way about him that made you enjoy his company.  He was also very handsome and charming in my eyes.  As friends, we all shared some really fun times together.  We were given the opportunity to send notes to him during the final season of his life, for which I am thankful.  Although I did not know Mike as well as I would have liked to, Bob Heriford shared much about his good friend, and any friend of Bob’s, is a friend of mine.   I want to thank Bob and Tom Bradley for their efforts to keep us informed of things concerning the precious friends we have had the privilege of enjoying in our lifetime.  I extend my condolences to family and friends of Mike, and share  in the loss of his passing.  It is a reminder to us all of how very precious each day and every friend is.  I am grateful for each of you in our class of ‘63, and for the honor of having known Mike Lauzun.  God bless you, each and every one.   Dawn Welch Pratt

This was received from Jerry Smrchek on 11-20-2008:

(Who we had mistakenly listed as deceased for at least the last 15 years - Welcome back Jerry)

My wife just today randomly found the 1963 Class list to Lansing Everett High School
I checked my name and found out I was deceased.
 Not surprising as the last contact I had with anyone from the 1963 class was in the late 1960's.

A few things have happened since then: Graduation from MSU; graduate school (Univ of Kansas);
 U.S. Army service (drafted); graduate school again (Virginia Tech); marriage to a
wonderful woman from SW VA;
 career in U.S. gov't (FDA/EPA); two children arrived; marriage of son; daughter graduated from college and moved to Chicago;
and my impending retirement in early 2009, and relocation to Longs, SC.
